About

Author & Photographer Mina Thevenin. Career, leisure and life projects…the long and short of it.

An artist is to light, as a mathematician is to numbers—both minds seeing the art of it all—in everything. My name is Mina (pronounced M E E N A), Mina Thevenin—photographer, writer, artist, naturalist—creator of Photography World @ photographyworld.org. Artistry begins in imagination and creativity, without bounds, and found me in my early youth with endearing conversations between myself, Teddy Rabbit, and my real-life cat who didn’t have a tail. Sometimes I think that such practice of using one’s imagination gives the generations who have grown up before computers a cornerstone advantage over many millennials in our culture, where often creativity is done for them; but I do think that for a few, the art of the story-teller and creating a story board (gaming software) is alive and well!

Photography, writing, painting, sketching, music…become extensions of myself. I see and experience in these art forms, the beauty of God and God’s gifts to us. As a Christian, I draw inspiration—and comfort—from engaging in art. For me it’s always been more about the process rather than the end result, yet the end is important, too.

Being in nature connects us with our spiritual self. We connect with the Creator. Nature calms and energizes. Whether I am doing nature photography, plein air painting, or writing poetry on a boulder under a starry sky, nature gifts me just by being present in it.

Teaching people this process is a life’s work for me. Process? Understanding and putting into practice: living in the moment of the now, that this is all we have at the time, and learning that the now paves the path for future (end result or goal). As a licensed clinical social worker, I am impassioned with being of service to others.
